Requirements to obtain VISA to enter Japan

Passport Information

U.S. Passport or passport of any other nationality, must have at least 6 months remaining validity from the day of entry into the country for which VISA has been applied for. If validity is less than 6 months ETS will renew your passport (Fee’s apply).

US CITIZENS DO NOT NEED A VISA TO ENTER Japan FOR A PERIOD OF 90 DAYS OR LESS FOR SHORT TERM TOURIST/BUSINESS VISIT

The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles is currently accepting applications by mail only or courier drop off.

 Express Travel Services can help you in preparing the documents and dropping off at the consulate on your behalf. The consulate will mail the passport back directly to the traveler.

Japan Tourist Visa

  • Most recent signed passport. Must be valid beyond six months.
  • 1- passport type photo, less than 6 months old. No glasses to be worn on the photo and a neutral expression.
  • 1- application form to be filled online. Click Here. Signature must be original. No digital signatures will be accepted. If a field is not applicable, please write “N/A” or “None”. Please make sure to verify your email address and phone number are clearly and legibly listed on the application form. No front to back printing on the application form.
  • A copy of the applicant’s  daily schedule. Describe your DETAILED daily activity plan in Japan along with the hotel confirmation(s) (if not booked, on the Schedule of Stay, clearly state the name, address and phone number for every night with intended accommodation). If joining a tour, please bring a receipt of the deposit/payment.
  • Most recent bank statement which must be issued by a bank in the U.S. and must have the traveler’s  name and address on it.
  • A letter from the applicant’s  U.S. company on company letterhead  which must include the nature of the business trip, length of stay, and the company’s financial responsibility for the expense incurred during the trip.
  • Copy of the applicant’s  driver’s license or government issued photo ID. If ID does not list current address, please provide a utility bill copy.
  • Flight itinerary or reservation is required. The itinerary must have  applicant’s name and date along with the flight information (starting with the U.S. AND including the flight to/from Japan).
  • If the traveler intends  to enter another country after Japan and a visa is required, you must get that visa first.
  • Non U.S. citizens must provide proof of their immigration status.
  • Please submit a PREPAID return envelope with tracking. You can use USPS (Priority or Express)only.  ETS can purchase a prepaid USPS envelope on your behalf for a fee of $20.00

Japan  Business Visa

Please make sure to verify your email address and phone number are clearly and legibly listed on the application form. No front to back printing on the application form.
  • A copy of the applicant’s  daily schedule. Describe your DETAILED daily activity plan in Japan along with the hotel confirmation(s) (if not booked, on the Schedule of Stay, clearly state the name, address and phone number for every night with intended accommodation). If joining a tour, please bring a receipt of the deposit/payment.
  • A letter from the applicant’s  U.S. company on company letterhead  which must include the company name, address, phone number,  applicant’s name, title and position, length of employment, detail purpose of visit, length of stay in Japan,  and the company’s financial responsibility for the expenses  incurred during the trip.
  • A detail letter of invitation from the host company in Japan on their letterhead.
  • Copy of the applicant’s  driver’s license or government issued photo ID. If ID does not list current address, please provide a utility bill copy.
  • Flight itinerary or reservation is required. The itinerary must have  applicant’s name and date along with the flight information (starting with the U.S. AND including the flight to/from Japan).
  • If the traveler intends  to enter another country after Japan and a visa is required, you must get that visa first.
  • Non U.S. citizens must provide proof of their immigration status.
  • Please submit a PREPAID return envelope with tracking. You can use USPS (Priority or Express) or FedEx (no handwritten airbills). Please do not use UPS as the consulate does not have UPS pick up. ETS can create a label on your behalf for a fee.

ETS charges a fee of $175.00 for each visa processing.
