Requirements to obtain VISA to enter Costa Rica

Passport Information

U.S. Passport or passport of any other nationality, musthave at least 6 months remaining validity from the day of entry into the country for which VISA has been applied for. If validity is less than 6 months ETS will renew your passport (Fee’s apply).

U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business travel to this country for a period of 90 days.

VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR NON US CITIZENS

Costa Rica Tourist Visa

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months (and photocopy of the page with your information).
  • 1 visa application form, completed and signed – Click Here. All application forms must be typed in.
  • One application form, fully completed and signed
  • 1 color photograph (2 x 2 inches).
  • Proof of legal permanent residency in the US ( original greencard). Visas will only be issued to individuals with permanent residency in the United States. Individuals who do not meet these requirements should apply for visa in their country of origin.
  • A personal letter stating the purpose of your trip.
  • Proof of solid economic status (bank account statements, salary statements, etc.).
  • Onward return tickets or confirmed itinerary

Costa Rica Business Visa

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months (and photocopy of the page with your information).
  • 1 visa application form, completed and signed – Click Here. All application forms must be typed in.
  • One application form, fully completed and signed
  • 1 color photograph (2 x 2 inches).
  • Proof of legal permanent residency in the US ( original greencard). Visas will only be issued to individuals with permanent residency in the United States. Individuals who do not meet these requirements should apply for visa in their country of origin.
  • A letter from the company in the U.S. stating the purpose and duration of the trip and that the company will take care of all the financial expenses of the applicant during the intended stay in Costa Rica.
  • A Letter of invitation from the host company in Costa Rica.
  • Proof of solid economic status (bank account statements, salary statements, etc.).
  • Onward return tickets or confirmed itinerary

Other Information

  • Generally the process takes up to three weeks or more. The authorized visa is issued by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería, therefore the processing time may vary. Once it is approved, the Consulate processes it in 2 days.
  • If the person is a Greencard holder, the visa does not need to be granted by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería, except for nationals of Palestine, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, People’s Republic of China, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan and Algeria, which even with a Greencard, require an authorized visa.
