Requirements to obtain VISA to enter Portugal
Passport Information
U.S. Passport or passport of any other nationality, must have at least 6 months remaining validity from the day of entry into the country for which VISA has been applied for. If validity is less than 6 months ETS will renew your passport (Fee's apply).
U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourism or business purpose to enter Portugal for a period of 90 days.
Visa requirements for non-U.S. citizens.
Portugal Tourist Visa
- A valid passport with atleast 6 months validity remaining
- One visa application form, typewritten or block printed. If application is not signed in person at the consulate, the signature must be notarized
- One recent passport size color photograph, facing forward (please do not staple photo to the application form)
- Proof establishing purpose of your trip (eg. a letter of invitation, proof of participation in group travel etc)
- Proof of sufficent funds to cover the cost of the intended stay (eg. travelers checks, bank statements, credit cards etc)
- Proof of lodging i.e. hotel reservation (must be in the applicants name), rental of vacation home, stay with a family member or friend. In the latter case, a financial support document must be submitted, signed by the family friend or the friend in question. The signature of this person must be notarrized by the local authorities of the Schengen country in question
- Onward/return airline ticket or confirmed itinerary
- If returning to the U.S., a valid U.S. resident alien card or a valid U.S. visa document with a validity that exceeds the intended stay of the applicant in the Schengen territory by atleast 60 days
- If the applicant is a minor, please present written consent of a parent or guardian having the care and custody of the child. The signature of this document must be notarized
- Proof of health/accident insurance is required. Holders of domestic insurance withourt travel insurance need to provide declaration from the insurer that their coverage is valid in all Schengen member states equal to 30,000 Euros
Portugal Business Visa
- A valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining

- Proof establishing purpose of your trip (eg. a letter of invitation from the host company in Portugal)
- A letter from the company in the U.S. stating the purpose and duration of the trip
- Proof of sufficent funds to cover the cost of the intended stay (eg. travelers checks, bank statements, credit cards etc)
- Onward/return airline ticket or confirmed itinerary
- If returning to the U.S., a valid U.S. resident alien card or a valid U.S. visa document with a validity that exceeds the intended stay of the applicant in the Schengen territory by atleast 60 days
