Requirements to obtain VISA to enter Colombia
Passport Information
U.S. Passport or passport of any other nationality, must have at least 6 months remaining validity from the day of entry into the country for which VISA has been applied for. If validity is less than 6 months ETS will renew your passport (Fee's apply).
US Citizens traveling to Colombia for business, need a Business Visa. If the purpose of the trip is tourism, no visa is required.
VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR NON US CITIZENS
Colombia Tourist Visa
- Valid Passport with at least 3 available pages and valid for a minimum of 6 months
- Two (2) passport copies, including the information pages as well as all used pages
- Two (2) originals of the Visa Application Form both signed and completely filled out
- Three (3) colored passport-type photograph (1.5”x1.5”)
- Original Documents showing the activities to be developed in Colombia (i.e. Letter from the family members, Travel program, etc.)
- Proof of Financial Solvency. Bank statements of the last three months, certificates of income, income tax or any other financial document
- Certificate of Record Search. This is a police clearance certificate from the city of residency showing applicant's criminal record (if any) and is known as a "Certificate of Record Search." This certificate must be updated (issued within the last six months), translated into Spanish and both versions (English and Spanish) must be notarized and certified with an APOSTILLE from the Secretary of State of the State where it was issued. This certificate is required ONLY if you do not hold a current Colombian visa
- Certificate of Employment or enrollment in academic institution, stating length of employment and position, or current enrollment in academic institution. This letter must be translated into Spanish and both versions (English & Spanish) notarized and certified with an APOSTILLE from the Secretary of State of the state where it was issued
- U.S. Alien Resident Card (original) or proof of legal immigration status in the United States
- Onward/return tickets or confirmed itinerary
Colombia Business Visa
- Valid Passport with at least 3 available pages and good for a minimum of 6 months
- Two (2) copies of the passport, including the information pages as well as all used (stamped ) pages
- Two (2) originals of the Visa Application Form both signed and completely filled out
- Three (3) recent colored passport-type photographs (1.5”x1.5”)
- U.S. Alien Resident Card or proof of legal immigration status in the United States
- Original of the Letter from the company (American, Colombian or from any other country) stating the name and position of the applicant, detailed purpose of the trip, and the company's commitment to assume full financial responsibility for the travel expenses, including his return to the country of origin or last country of residence. This letter must be in Spanish, if the original is in English it must be translated and both versions (English and Spanish) must be notarized and then certified with an APOSTILLE from the Secretary of State of the State where it was issued
- If the person traveling to do business in Colombia is an entrepreneur, he/she must prove his/her economy solvency, showing a monthly income above 30 minimum current legal salaries
- ORIGINAL of the "CERTIFICATE OF CORPORATE EXISTENCE", (proof of legal existence of the US Company) issued by the "SECRETARY OF STATE", from the state in which the company was incorporated. This certificate must be updated (issued within the last six months) and certified with an APOSTILLE from the Secretary of State of the state where it was issued
- Onward/return tickets or confirmed itinerary
Other Information
- Documents notarized by a Notary Public must be certified with an APOSTILLE from the secretary of state of the State where it was issued.
- If the applicant is an independent businessperson, he/she must prove it, justify his/her visit to Colombia and show non-reimbursable round-trip ticket and personal bank statements of the last three months from the date of visa request.
- For US citizens the visa takes 3 working days to be reviewed, for non US citizens it might take up to two (2) weeks, and is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.
